Study is not very interesting, needs some other reference / ideas

Zettelkasten and Evergreen notes

Copy Paste is too easy. Especially worse (or tired?) students are inclined to just copy paste information, which leads to shallow reading.

Copy Paste is convenient, but any information not selected is more likely to be ignored Von Restorff effect, this might lead to copy everything and the kitchen–sync, which might also not work well.

Best would be limiting the information copied. How to limit oneself is not something I have figures out yet.

Highlighting in Zotero and Calibre, which has color-highlighting Colors and taxonomies, has the extra step od deciding what color to use (classify the highlight). This extra slowdown helps me to read more carefully. Kindle highlighting is too easy to overdo.

Literature notes

@Exploring Differences in Students’ Copy-and-Paste Decision Making and Processing: A Mixed-Methods Study Unlimited CP results in worse engagement, and study results

  • highlighting without review is ludicrous
  • predicted bad result if CP is not restricted in some way
    • this proved to be true
      • clearly visible that students engaged less with the material if not needed
  • Restricting CP had a positive influence on how careful students read and thought about the material

Fleeting notes

Some people are inclined to deeper study, Copy/Paste strengthens those inclinations

  • Different copy paste styles do not by definition mean people don’t understand the text
  • It is difficult to minimize the amount of CP text
  • two groups those who verbatim copy
    • chose whatever sounded good
      • path of the least resistance
        • natural more people will do this this
          • everybody will when tired
            • makes unlimited CP a bad study tool
    • those who pick and choose
      • took a lot of thinking
        • evaluate very actively busy with the material
          • repeatedly
