Note-taking and zettelkasten navel-gazing. Also see Exploring Andy’s notes for a second line of reasoning.

Writing notes

  • Write notes for yourself
    • Use daily notes to close open loops and keep a journal
  • Notes need to be atomic because all external context is lost
    • notes are simply components, stripped of external context, collected for future use

Free structure organization

  • There is freedom in letting go of assumptions and limits. These less traveled paths will be more fulfilling and adventurous
  • PKMs need limited chaos to flourish substance is more important then form
  • consistent naming and coloring taxonomies lowers mental overhead

Linking notes

  • atomic notes should be densely linked
  • links are more valuable than the notes they connect

Deploying notes aka understanding

  • there is understanding in the combination of ideas
  • For information to become knowledge it should be processed

History - zettelkasten & commonplace books

  • Niklas Luhmann
  • History of zettelkasten (very much wip)
  • Classical zettelkasten was a balanced but outdated system
